Yesterday I arrived in Columbia (South Carolina, not the country, though I can wish!). I got to my dorm and after a bit (but not too much) of a search located my room and the key for it. My RA welcomed me with a hug. The girl who picked me up from the airport was really nice and helped me find my way around and made sure I wasn't stranded.
I'm an here at CIU (Columbia International University)to get a Certificate in Biblical Ministries (which is a 1.5 year program in the Seminary/Grad school). Someday I hope to complete a Masters in Intercultural Studies, but for now I will content myself with the certificate (which is essentially for me the first half of the masters).
I came here nervous about what it would be like. I had heard a lot of wonderful things about the school from people at my church. I had carefully examined the website, but the truth is that one can't really know what a place is like til one is there. I read the rules, but it was hard to say what the attitude of the rules was. I am happy to report that the school does not seem legalistic. That was probably my number one worry in coming here-that the school would be too busy looking Christian and missing the important stuff. I am happy to report that that does not seem to be the case.
On my way here I was starting to worry that I had done the right thing-quitting my job, selling my car, and heading to school I hadn't even visited, but while I was in the airport in Atlanta I met a really neat lady. She read my tshirt and told me that her brother teaches at CIU and that she went there. We sat and talked for over an hour about a lot of things and I was so encouraged. She was so sweet and demonstrated a real passion for people and talked about the ministries she was involved in.
My prayer for this school year is that God shows me HIS direction for my life in a very clear way and that I grow in Him.
